Plant information

General

If you love striking plants, you’ll fall in love with the Calathea right away. This beautiful plant native to the Amazon region is multifaceted. Leaves come in different shapes and sizes, but the most unique part of this plant is that it shuts its leaves at night. When the sun comes up, the leaves will open up again. The Calathea truly is a dynamic plant. Moreover, the Calathea is an air purifying plant. Isn't that wonderful!

Care

The Calathea loves water. The soil should be kept moist, as this plant loves water. This plant should be watered twice a week, especially in summer. In winter, the Calathea requires less water. Misting the plant helps with the high humidity level this plant requires.

Placing

Use this rule of thumb for the Calathea: the lighter the leaves, the brighter the spot should be. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will damage the plant. Also keep in mind that this plant does not like sitting in a draught.

Propogation

Repot the Calathea once every two or three years, or when the plant outgrows its pot. Preferably repot in spring, as damaged roots will recover faster in spring.
